If you are one of the people applying for a PayPal Rewards MasterCard and you keep getting rejected because they say your credit report is locked, but you unlocked it, here’s what is going on and how to fix it.
While they will name the bureau explicitly as either TransUnion, Equifax, or Experian, if the report is not locked at the named bureau, what is really happening is that your credit report is probably locked at Innovis, the 4th credit reporting agency that almost nobody has heard of. You likely locked your report there and forgot about it, like I did. Synchrony Bank, their issuer, first checks Innovis and then checks the major bureau. If the report is locked at Innovis, the error message will still specify the major bureau they intended to check next but didn’t. It’s a defect.
So, go to https://innovis.com and lift the lock (temporarily is better), and then apply again.
